Tata Motors that already has 650 electric buses running pan India, has won a contract from Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) for 1,500 electric buses as part of the Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) bid to provide, operate, and maintain air-conditioned, low-floor, completely constructed 12-meter electric buses for 12 years, it said in a statement.

According to the automaker, Tata Starbus electric buses offer state-of-the-art technology for sustainable, eco-friendly and economical public transportation and are equipped with modern features for its passengers.

This bus order is part of the CESL plans for $10-billion tender for 50,000 electric buses that CESL has planned. Earlier this year CESL awarded a contract for 5,450 electric buses on behalf of five state governments.

Delhi Transport Corporation MD Neeraj Semwal & (CESL) MD and CEO Mahua Acharya both lauded the Delhi Government's leadership to transition to electric buses and thanked Tata Motors for their collaboration, they stated in a release.
